Nature - More about evolution

1. Introduction

Evolution - Gradual development of something. (Google)

Everything began with one-cell organisms. Oceans were full of life, you can't see with your bare eye. But how did they evolve in so advanced organisms, like us, humans. Well, that is because of evolution. And I will explain you how it works.

2. How does evolution work?

Evolution requires some kind of reproducing information and in nature this is DNA. While DNA is shared with the new generation, some mistakes may occur. These tiny changes might cause organism to change some of it's propreties. This in most cases hurts organism and it dies, so this DNA transfer to the next generaton. But in some cases, this change is good and it helps the organism to survive, so there is greater chance that organism will transfer DNA. This tiny changes, cause great diference after millions of years. That is why species exist, and that is how we are so advanced.

If you are not satisfied with the explanation, you can learn more about evolution on Wikipedia.

3. How does my evolution simulator work?

So, this is how evolution in nature works, but I have created a simple evolution simulator on using computers, and I will show you how.
My evolution simulator is based on technique of survival of the best:

  1. I randomly generate two organism, with three characteristic: power, defense, life(health).
  2. I make them fight. They attack each other but they only have affect if their (attack) power is greater than their opponent's defense (life1=life1-(power2-defense1)).
  3. I repeat this step 40 times, unless one of the characters loses all its life.
  4. I compare them. Usually wins the one with more life, but if they have the same life the one on left wins (I know this is stupid solution, but it works).
  5. I reproduce them. First, I "kill" the looser and than I take characteristics from the winner, and I change all of them up to 5% (up or down) and I create new character.
  6. I make them fight again and see who has better characteristics and repeat the process.

This process is not hard to understand, but it works, and if you play this game long enough, you will see the great difference it makes.
